Lisa Batiashvili plays Dvořák

Abo B
Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
19:30 Uhr

We present a celebrated work from our Orchestra’s ancestral home, Bohemia. Dvořák’s publisher asked the composer: »Would you like to write me a Violin Concerto, absolutely original, crammed with cantilenas and aimed at good violinists?« Our Portrait Artist Lisa Batiashvili will bring out all its virtuosic beauties. Shostakovich’s symphonic oeuvre culminated in the Fifteenth Symphony, completed in 1971. This profound work offers critical and ironic reflections on a composing career full of highs and lows. Shostakovich toys with different sounds and quotes his own works and those of others, such as Rossini, Wagner and Beethoven. The musical material is presented in an engrossingly kaleidoscopic jumble – so it’s a good thing that Ingo Metzmacher will be guiding our Orchestra through this exciting score.
