Angelos Kritikos

Principal trombone

Angelos Kritikos was born on the Greek island of Corfu. He had his first taste of music aged eight, playing the euphonium, and switched to the trombone four years later. He completed further training at the Corfu’s Music High School and Conservatoire, graduating with distinction in 2005.

At the same time he played in various orchestras and chamber ensembles, and was successful in regional and national competitions. In June 2012 he graduated from Prof. Jonas Bylund’s trombone class at Hanover’s University of Music, Theatre and Media, again with distinction.

In 2008 Angelos Kritikos won first prize at the Aeolus International Wind Competition. The following year, at the Kurt Alten Competition, he won both third prize and the audience prize. In 2010 he won second prize at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition.

In 2008, while a member of the successful Hanover Trombone Unit octet, he held a scholarship from the German Music Council, and in 2011 he won the German Music Competition in Berlin. Angelos Kritikos has been solo trombone in the Bamberg Symphony since September 2009.
