Johann Voithofer

Principal trombone

Johann Voithofer studied first at the Salzburg Mozarteum and then transferred to Prof. Johann Doms at Berlin’s University of the Arts, where he also received coaching from the Karajan Academy.

He was solo trombone in the Bonn Beethoven Orchestra from 1981 to 1984, and in Cologne’s Gürzenich Orchestra from 1985 to 1999. Johann Voithofer has been principal trombone of the Bamberg Symphony since 2000. From 2001 to 2010, he was also bass trumpet in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
