Katharina Cürlis

Katharina Cürlis started by learning the violin aged five, and later switched to the viola. After graduating from secondary school, she studied at the Cologne, Utrecht and Berlin Universities of Music. She held a scholarship from the Rhineland-Palatinate Villa Musica Foundation, was supported by Live Music Now, and played in various chamber music ensembles and youth orchestras. After a stint as substitute in the Munich Philharmonic, in 2005 Katharina Cürlis joined the Bamberg Symphony as viola section leader.
