Zsófia Magyar

Zsófia Magyar is from Budapest, where she began her studies at the Béla Bartók Conservatoire in 1994. In 1998 she transferred to the Freiburg University of Music, to continue her studies with Prof. Hans Elhorst and later Prof. Heinz Holliger. During this time she held a scholarship from the Ida and Otto Chelius Foundation in Freiburg. In 2003 she graduated with distinction and was admitted to Prof. Günther Passin’s advanced class at the Munich University of Music.

As a guest artist, she performs with various orchestras, including the Munich Philharmonic, Berlin Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Budapest Festival Orchestras. In chamber music she collaborated with artists such as Ulf Rodenhäuser, András Adorján, Wolfgang Gaag, Wen-Sinn Yang, Mirijam Contzen and Konstantin Heidrich. From 2008 to 2011 she was cor anglais tutor at the Lübeck Academy of Music.

In 2007 she was a scholarship-holder of the Bayreuth Richard Wagner Association. She previously received a scholarship from the Upper Franconia Haus Marteau International Music Centre in 2004, and joined the Munich Radio Orchestral Academy, when she began to devote herself ever more to the cor anglais. Finally, in 2005, she became the Bamberg Symphony’s solo cor anglais.
