"Creation" - 2022/2023
Dear friends of music,
Music, and the arts in general, are responsive to the developments of society, to life. At times, a piece of art may even foretell what is yet to come. Masterpieces, great symphonies are valid for all and unfold their fascination for the audiences regardless of their time period. Turmoil, and crises are also often causes for the creation of art. So it is "Creation" that we want to consider musically in the season 22/23: as an act of musical creation, as a scoring of nature, fauna and flora in times long past, and as a reaction to the harm done to creation by natural disasters, the so-called climate crisis, and also the man-made crises in Eastern Europe and elsewhere.
We wish to reconsider our responsibility for culture – culture also as a mandate to preserve our creation, and thus providing musical stimulation for thought, which promises artistic enjoyment for the ear at the same time. Likewise, we will take a new look at the World Orchestra’s travels, which are expected to pick up speed quite literally after the pandemic, from the standpoint of environmental compatibility. We have a number of ideas about this which we will be working on over the months and years to come.
Now let’s move on to music, the heart of our work: the "Creation" brings you, the “world's best audience”, a number of concerts worth hearing, with masterpieces from the likes of Haydn and Bruckner to Mahler. We have the pleasure of welcoming great artists, soloists and conductors to Bamberg: Mitsuko Uchida, Julia Fischer, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Sol Gabetta or Yefim Bronfman as well as our honorary conductors Herbert Blomstedt and Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Andris Nelsons, Jonathan Nott and many others.
We look forward to touring with our principal conductor Jakub Hrůša: to Spain and the Far East, as well as to guest performances at the Lucerne Festival, the Vatican, in Ghent, in Vienna and in Germany’s grand concert halls from the rivers Elbe to the Isar. Join us and enjoy the new concert season, be it in Bamberg or on tour.
