Bamberg Symphony on tour to Spain

»In Spain already one thousand and three«, sings Leporello in Mozart’s »Don Giovanni«. We haven’t yet given quite that many concerts in Spain, but we do perform there regularly. And we’ve been doing so since 1950, the year of our first tour of the Iberian peninsula, with Clemens Krauss conducting. More tours followed under Rudolf Kempe, Joseph Keilberth, Eugen Jochum, Horst Stein, Jonathan Nott and many others. Our venues have included Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Murcia, Seville, San Sebastián, Las Palmas, Burgos and many more. On that first tour, 67 years ago, we took with us music by Beethoven, Strauss, Wagner, Weber, and the overture to »Donna Diana« by Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek – much played back then. This time, we’ll present repertoire we’ve never yet performed in Spain: Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, Dvořák’s Symphony »From the New World«, and the cycle which in a way is part of our Bohemian DNA: Bedřich Smetana’s »Má Vlast«. As so often, our home audience will also have the pleasure of hearing these concerts in Bamberg, before we set off on tour, and so will sort of join us on our journey.
