»Slam Symphony«

WED, 12. November 2025, 8:00 PM
Bamberg Concerthall, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal

The game is on again: our popular Slam Symphony enters the next round. And so it’s time to get creative for another exciting competition between poets. This time, the theme takes us to the heart of Andalusia, where the story of Carmen is set – a temperamental and self-confident woman who wraps a handsome officer as well as a dashing bullfighter around her finger with her seductive arts, but deep down loves her freedom much more. A web of intrigue, passion and jealousy unfolds. All this amid the flair of bullfighting, cigarette factories and smuggling – and with music that is brimming with Spanish folklore. Rodion Shchedrin’s arrangement, created in 1967, lends the numbers from Bizet’s successful opera a fascinating modern sound – with lots of percussion instruments and a stirring drive. The familiar melodic earworms (such as the “Habanera”) remain, but in the kaleidoscopic splendour of this wonderful version they seem both familiar and tantalisingly unfamiliar. We look forward to hearing how the poetry slammers will illuminate the story of Carmen with their texts – and at the end, the level of applause will reveal which puns the audience liked best.

»Club Symphony«

THU, 18. June 2026, 8.00 PM, Bamberg Concerthall, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal

Classical music meets techno:
we have a playful mix of tradition and innovation in store for you – and, just like last season’s first Club Symphony, we will be turning our concert hall into a pulsating club. Audiences will be able to enjoy the wonderful creativity of this irresistible adventure on this very special night. We are delighted to welcome two engaging artists who are experienced bridge builders between classical and popular music: together with pianist and keyboardist Francesco Tristano and under the baton of conductor Dzijan Emin, we will bring down the boundaries between genres with a zest for music. It will be a captivating journey of discovery as the sounds of our symphony orchestra merge with the avant-garde textures, driving sounds and pulsating rhythms of electronic music. The fascinating crossover that emerges creates exciting and atmospheric spaces for new experiences. Classical works flow seamlessly into the complex compositions of Dzijan Emin and Francesco Tristano – and with this experimental mix, the divide between these supposedly so different musical worlds is all of a sudden not so big anymore.

Video Games in Concert

WED, 25 June 2025, 8:00 PM
Music from Video Games such as »Assassin’s Creed, »Call of Duty« or »Uncharted«

SPECIAL CONCERT for ages 12 and older Duration: approx. 90 minuteBamberg Concerthall, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal

Even if you have never played Tetris, you will most likely be familiar with the Russian folk song »Korobeiniki«, that served as soundtrack for the first video game with cult status and is indelibly linked to it. And since the success of such epic games as »Fortnite«, »Resident Evil« and »Horizon« at the very latest, it has become clear that video game music transcends the framework for which it was created. Like the soundtrack to famous films, the characteristic melodies are often familiar even to those who have never played the respective game. Under the baton of Eímear Noone, the Bamberg Symphony is now taking the video game scores from well-known titles to the Bamberg concert stage. The Irish composer and conductor has touched over 100 million people worldwide with her music for the online role-playing game »World of Warcraft«. She not only won the Hollywood Music in Media Award with her compositions, but also received five nominations for the Annual Game Music Awards 2014. Together with singer Celine Byrne, the orchestra will take the audience into strange new worlds, fusing the sound of a classical symphony orchestra with the sound of electric guitar, bass and drums. A journey through magical forests, post-apocalyptic civilisations and treacherous labyrinths – not only video game lovers will get their money’s worth on this special concert eveni
