Berthold Opower

Berthold Opower studied in Düsseldorf, Boston and Munich, with Prof. Rosa Fain and Prof. Michèle Auclair, and as an advanced student under Prof. Kurt Guntner. He won several federal prizes in the Jugend musiziert competition and held a scholarship from the Düsseldorf Robert Schumann University of Music. He attended numerous international advanced classes with such renowned teachers as Igor Ozim, Viktor Liberman, Herman Krebbers, Valery Gradow and Eduard Schmieder. He gained his first professional orchestral experiences as an intern and substitute in the Düsseldorf Symphony and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestral Academy.

From 2000 to 2005 he played first violin at Munich’s Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, before taking up the same post in the Bamberg Symphony. As co-founder and member of the Bamberg Ligeti Quartet he continued studying under the tutelage of Prof. Peter Buck (Melos Quartet). The Ligeti Quartet’s members were invited several times to the Oberstdorf International Summer Music Festival – as both students and orchestral coaches. Berthold Opower has also been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2008.
