Holger Brust

Principal timpani

Holger Brust was born in Bremerhaven and had his first percussion and piano lessons aged nine. As a teenager, he played jazz and rock drums in various bands. In 1994 he began studying timpani and percussion under Prof. Oswald Vogler, Prof. David Punto and Prof. Thomas Lutz in Berlin.

In 1997 he was accepted into the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Herbert von Karajan Foundation, taking lessons with Prof. Rainer Seegers and Prof. Franz Schindlbeck. He has been solo timpanist of the Bamberg Symphony since 1998.
