Manuel Mischel

Principal trumpet

Manuel Mischel was born in Uelzen and received his first trumpet lessons at the age of eight in his local trombone choir. After studying with Prof. Matthias Höfs at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, he went on to complete his bachelor's degree there.

He gained his first orchestral experience in the Lower Saxony and Bremen State Youth Orchestras, the German National Youth Orchestra, and, during his studies, in the Young North German Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Academy of the Zermatt Music Festival.

After an orchestral internship with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, he was engaged as deputy principal trumpeter with the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra and as principal trumpeter with the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2016/2017, he was a scholarship holder at the Karajan Academy with the Berlin Philharmonic, where he received lessons from Tamás Velenczei and Martin Kretzer before taking up a permanent position with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra as principal trumpeter.

He regularly performs as a guest musician with orchestras such as the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and others. In addition to his orchestral activities, he is also involved in chamber music.

He has won several prizes in various competitions, including first prize in the Elise Meyer Foundation Competition in Hamburg and the national prize in the ‘Jugend musiziert’ competition. Since autumn 2025, he has been playing solo trumpet with the Bamberg Symphony.
