Sabine Lier

Sabine Lier has been a member of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra since 1989. Thanks to her first violin teacher, Egon Saßmannshaus, she was able to discover the string quartet repertoire at the early age of twelve.

In 1980, she won a federal prize as a quartet player in the Jugend musiziert competition. Joining the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra at an early age quickly confirmed her career of choice as orchestral musician. She was subsequently a visiting student of Prof. Conrad von der Goltz, later switching to Prof. Rainer Kussmaul in Freiburg, and undertook postgraduate studies with Prof. Nora Chastain and advanced classes with Prof. Shmuel Ashkenasi and Prof. Thomas Brandis. In 1987 Sabine Lier was a founding member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the start of a musically exciting and formative phase. With Camerata Köln she was involved in numerous CD recordings and concerts, at home and abroad.

Alongside her orchestral work in Bamberg, Sabine Lier considers herself fortunate to be able to play chamber music. She is second violin of the Berganza Quartet, formed in 2003, and a founding member of fattoamano, the Bamberg Symphony’s baroque soloists’ ensemble.
