Chamber Concert: Horns
Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
20:00 Uhr
Music is always in motion – in rhythm, in breathing, in emotion. This programme, performed by four horn players from within our orchestra, creates a wonderful arc: it begins with the Baroque dance-like energy of George Frideric Handel’s famous suites. The works of Anton Bruckner and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart fill the air with a spiritual calm, measured yet full of excitement. This is followed by festive marching movements in vivid musical images by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Giuseppe Verdi and Carl Maria von Weber – ranging from solemn processions to dazzling parades. Eugène Bozza’s colourful suite brings to life the horn’s original versatility, moving between hunting, song and dance: The music breathes, sings and celebrates – a resounding portrait of the instrument, blending nature, tradition and modern elegance. A jazzy swing by Lowell Shaw brings the evening to a close: the three »Fripperies« thrive on rhythmic drive, playful wit and stylish lightness. A special feature of this chamber concert is the piece »Rhapsodess«, composed in 2025 by Eduard Resatsch, who is also a member of the Bamberg Symphony: a contemporary work that makes movement perceptible in the form of a free flow of thought and establishes a direct connection to the musical life of the city Bamberg. Colours, lines and moods shift seamlessly: music that is constantly evolving and therefore deeply moving. Thus, the horn quartet portrays movement in all its facets – powerful, lyrical, collaborative and vibrant.
