Organ Concert: Jean-Pierre Leguay and Zuzana Ferjenčíková

Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
17:00 Uhr

Virtuoso four-handed and four-footed improvisations – this concert welcomes two gifted artists to Bamberg who will not only pull out all the stops on our organ, but also whisk across the piano keys: Slovak organist, pianist and composer Zuzana Ferjenčíková has been a professor at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam since 2021. Celebrated for her captivating musicianship, she regularly thrills audiences with her paraphrases and improvisations on great themes from the Romantic and Modern periods. In 2004, she was the first woman to win First Prize at the International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem. She gives an impression of her enormous abilities in this genre in this programme – as does her partner: born in 1939, Frenchman Jean-Pierre Leguay is a world-renowned concert organist, composer and improviser, known for his openness and his broad repertoire ranging from the 17th to the 21st century. He was awarded numerous prizes, held several teaching positions and was titular organist at the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris for thirty years until the end of 2015. Like Zuzana Ferjenčíková, his interpretations captivate audiences. In this concert, the two artists will present a number of exciting works from music history, but above all they will improvise freely as soloists and as a duo, using the organ and the piano as a field of experimentation for all kinds of adventurous sounds and colours – and they are very much looking forward to requests from the audience.

Between the works, there will be improvisations by Zuzana Ferjenčíková (piano and organ) and Jean-Pierre Leguay (piano and organ) as well as improvisations on themes suggested by the audience.
