Youth Symphony Orchestra Ukraine

Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
20:00 Uhr

This promises to be a vibrant and inspiring concert as part of a new collaboration between the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Ukrainian Youth Symphony Orchestra—an ensemble that has captivated audiences with its outstanding musicianship since 2016. Under the direction of its founder, Oksana Lyniv, the programme features works by composers who shared a close artistic friendship in the nineteenth century. In 1859, Johannes Brahms completed his brilliant Piano Concerto No. 1, a work distinguished by the equal partnership between orchestra and soloist. Antonín Dvořák composed his Symphony No. 8 in 1889, giving free rein to his creative imagination. One of his biographers aptly described the work as "a kaleidoscope of vibrant, life-affirming colours." Between these two masterpieces comes a work closely connected to the homeland of the young musicians. It was composed by Eduard Resatsch, who was born in Ukraine and is now a cellist with the Bamberger Symphoniker. His Reflections of Hope grew out of his reflections during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, but it also addresses other troubling realities of our time, including wars and natural disasters. In the composer's own words, the music is "an attempt to give voice to the unspeakable and to express the imbalance of our time through sound." He continues: "Above all, however, this piece embodies a profound longing for peace and for a vision of people living together in harmony. Running like a thread through the entire work is the indestructible hope for a better world."
