CANCELLED! SPECIAL CONCERT IN HONOUR OF HERBERT BLOMSTEDT'S 99TH BIRTHDAY
Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
20:00 Uhr
The special concert celebrating Herbert Blomstedt’s 99th birthday, scheduled for 18 July, has unfortunately been cancelled. As he is unable to travel to Bamberg for health reasons, and as he was the artistic centre of the programme, we felt it was not appropriate to proceed with the concert without him. Ticket holders will be refunded in the coming weeks.
On his 99th birthday, we welcome an artist who has written an integral chapter in the history of the Bamberg Symphony: Herbert Blomstedt. We are particularly delighted that he will be conducting this concert himself – it is a tribute to his artistry, his charisma and the extraordinary bond that has united us for decades. Since his first appearance with our orchestra in December 1982, a special relationship has developed – founded on mutual trust, artistic clarity and an unwavering dedication to music. In more than four decades of working together, Herbert Blomstedt has left his mark on the Bamberg Symphony: through his musical experience as well as his calm authority and intelligent, always meaningful programme choices. Many concerts under his baton remain unforgettable: works from the heart of the symphonic repertoire were paired with infrequently performed compositions of profound expressiveness. His programmes always followed an inner dramaturgy – often surprising, always well thought out. In opening new musical horizons for us in this way Herbert Blomstedt has given us one of the greatest gifts of his artistic partnership with our orchestra. To dedicate this concert to him is an expression of our deepest gratitude. It stands for a long musical journey together, for many defining experiences – and for our close bond with a musician who has accompanied and inspired our orchestra like only a few others.
