ORGAN CONCERT: Balthazar Baumgartner & Sebastian Heindl
Bamberg, Konzerthalle
17:00 Uhr
Experience the thrill of our grand concert organ! Osnabrück’s celebrated cathedral organist Balthasar Baumgartner opens this concert with a highlight of French romantic organ music – Louis Vierne’s Second Organ Symphony of 1902. This symphonic flood of sound, here coming from one single instrument, combines classical formal rigour with romantic inspiration. After the premiere, Debussy enthused: »Old J.S. Bach, the father of us all, would have been very pleased with Monsieur Vierne.« The concert’s second part is performed by the young Leipzig star organist Sebastian Heindl. His transcriptions attracted the attention of experts early on. After Bach's original and highly virtuoso »Italian Concerto« of 1735, he will give musical expression to an »Archangel«: this 2018 work is part of the magical »Metal Angel« suites penned by the Swedish composer Gunnar Idenstam, who loves to push boundaries. We are equally curious to hear the first performance of one of Sebastian Heindl's own compositions, a fugue on the name B-A-C-H in »jazz style«. The four letters that make up Bach's name have always held great appeal for musicians, have been quoted countless times, and underpin a multitude of compositions. One thing is certain: the young organ virtuoso's version delights in experimenting with its subject! The concert will end with a sparkling rondo finale by the French impressionist Paul Dukas: here, a rhythmically concise theme develops into a kaleidoscope of dazzling tonal colours.
