Season opening with our principal conductor

Bamberg, Konzerthalle, Joseph-Keilberth-Saal
20:00 Uhr

How delightful it is to begin the concert season in Bamberg again! The challenges of the year 2020 and the exceptional circumstances under which we are fortunately allowed to play again should not distract from our joy of making music. The motto of the concert season 2020/2021 is »Dance« and our concert today also begins with a lot of verve and drive.

Carl Maria von Weber's »Aufforderung zum Tanz« is a charming orchestral story in which we encounter a gentleman who wants to flirt with a lady. While dancing the two meet and get to know each other - a promising start! Piotr Anderszewski, whom we already had the pleasure of having in Bamberg as portrait artist, then plays the virtuoso Piano Concerto in G major KV 453 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a delightful highlight in the classical style. In the third movement, Mozart built in variations on a much-loved song from his time, which is very much in the style of Papageno. The second half of our season opening is dedicated to Anton Bruckner. Chief conductor Jakub Hrůša has chosen the Fourth Symphony, which instantly delves into the Romantic world with its famous horn call over the gentle string tremolo at the beginning. It is always fascinating how subtly and without any deviations Bruckner can create new moods in a flash. The »Romantic«, as the composer called his symphony (incidentally, the only one with a epithet), rightly became one of Bruckner's most famous works - first performed in 1881 by the Vienna Philharmonic under Hans Richter, the symphony began its unbroken triumphal journey.
